My ENGL388V Portfolio
From Fall 2020 to Fall 2022, I served as an undergraduate teaching assistant in the Academic Writing Department at the University of Maryland. While this began as a way to fulfill my practicum requirement for College Park Scholars, I continued beyond my completion of the practicum. In order to be in the program, I took ENGL388V, a requirement of all undergraduate TAs. I have TAed for ENGL101 and ENGL101H, as well as TAing for both online and in-person sections. This is a digital portfolio that I am completing as I near the end of this job. However, many of the portfolio's contents were written during my time as a TA. Please feel free to move through my lesson plans, reflections, and other resources.
As a TA, my top priority is creating long-lasting connections from English to my students' lives. Writing has two main factors: what words we choose to write and how we present those words to our audience. Manipulating each of these two variables allows students to explore the written word. My favorite classes have been when students do this without even knowing it. By creating an environment where students feel free to experiment, they discover how to make writing work for them. This is much more long-lasting than any single assignment will ever be.
