Hello,
a bit about me:
Senior BA/MPP Candidate in Public Policy
Minor: Professional Writing
College Park Scholars Track: Public Leadership
Email Address: lorenzma19@gmail.com
As I near the halfway point of my time in college, I am taking a moment to consider where I am headed. When I first stepped foot on the University of Maryland’s campus, all I knew was that I wanted to learn a lot. Now that I have been here for some time, my entire life has fundamentally changed. Specifically, I have been able to cultivate my existing interests into activities I greatly enjoy. Most notably, I took my small experience with the Maryland YMCA’s Youth and Government program to know that I would enjoy the Public Leadership Scholars program. As a result of joining Public Leadership, I have gained an internship, service experiences, invaluable career advice, and meaningful relationships. Outside of Scholars, I used my experience as co-editor of my high school newspaper and my love of writing towards a teaching assistantship in English. In my major, I am putting both of these areas together into a policy degree. While the policy major itself most closely aligns with my career goals, I trust that my other college experiences will be equally as valuable. I hope that I can put my skills from Public Leadership to use when considering the emotional intelligence and ethical leadership necessary for policymaking. Also, I would be very interested in using my Profession Writing minor in a grant writing role. I am confident that the University of Maryland and the Public Leadership Scholars program will give me the knowledge and skills I need to be successful in my career and beyond.
